Sleek ponytail (protective style)

Hello everyone, hope you’re all well!

So today i have another easy, quick and sexy hairstyle that literally anyone can pull off.

It can be achieved using X-pression 100% synthetic braiding hair. This brand has many colours and textures ranging from straight to curly and black to purple. I used one pack of the ultra braid in colour 1 (black), because i wanted to match my hair colour as much as possible.

Preparing the synthetic hair.

  • First i took the hair out of the pack and cut it in half. I did this because the hair is very long in its initial state and i wanted it a bit shorter.
  • Next i feathered the ends of the hair by holding it on one end and picking at the tips (pulling the tips of the hair out). This is done to give the hair a more realistic look instead of a blunt cut look.

  • you can choose to use it in this state or you can blow dry it to get a straighter look. Here i used my WAHL powerpik 5000 salon styling hairdryer. It comes with a concentrator nozzle and a pik attachment. It has a cool button, three temperature settings and two speed settings.
  • I sprayed my AMLA legend silkening oil mist all over the hair before blow drying the hair. I then used the highest heat setting of the dryer and on the first speed setting with the pik attachment.
  • this is the result of blow drying it

Review of the Jamaican bounce crotchet braids.

Hello everyone.

Recently I installed the Jamaican bounce by sensationnel, in colour 1B and I will be giving you my opinion on getting crochet braids and this particular brand of crochet braiding hair.

The installation.

  • I used 3¼ packs of hair for my entire head.

  • I braided my hair in cornrows, in an all back style.
  • Then I took all the loose single braids and tucked them under the next braid, with the crotchet hook.
  • Next i took the crochet braids and separated them in two to loosen up the curls and make installation easier.
  • Whilst separating the hair, i realized it was producing a lot of frizz, but hey frizz makes it look more realistic right!
  • Using the hook, i would slip it under a braid, attach some hair to it, close the latch on the hock and gently pull it out.
  • Then i would loop it in the side that was pulled through with the hook and knot it.
  • After installing everything, i had to trim off a lot of its length, because it was 26 inches long and i didn’t want it that long.

This was the final result Continue reading Review of the Jamaican bounce crotchet braids.

A day volunteering at Shepreth Wildlife Park

It feels so good being in an article published by my university.

It was a rewarding experience volunteering at the Shepreth wildlife park. I got to feed and clean the hedgehogs, paint some fences and look at the animals. It was really fun.

Protective styling: flat twist out and braid out (updated with video)

Hi everyone, i have included a short video at the bottom of this article, to show how i braid and flat twist my hair.

With hair products, less is more. When our hair gets to a certain length we begin to explore different styles, but at the same time we need to remember not to over manipulate our hair. If our hands are constantly in our hair, we will damage our hair. So it is best if you can pick a protective style that will last for a week or two or even a month.

Welcome back everyone 😺 to another hair topic. Today is the beginning of the protective style episode, Yayy 🙌🏼!!! We will be looking at two of my favourite and go-to styles, the flat twist out and the braid out.

These are beautiful and easy styles that can be done in minutes and with amazing results. You can do both styles on damp or dry hair. I have noticed that I get better results when I do these styles on damp hair. In my opinion, it is easier to work with natural hair when it is damp, that way you can detangle any knot you come across easier. The tools you will need are;

  • A spray bottle
  • Some hair clips
  • A wide toothed comb or your fingers
  • Any styling product of your choice: the ones i will be using today are;
    Smooth ‘N shine polishing curled up mousse.

    Cantu Shea butter coconut oil shine & hold mist

How i keep my makeup brushes clean.

Hello everyone and welcome back another beauty topic.

So today i will be sharing with you how i clean and store my makeup brushes and sponges. I wash my brushes and sponges the same day they are used. Haha i know most of you might think that is a bit excessive, but i just cant stand using a dirty makeup brush/sponge. I feel that once i use it and put it down on the side, it accumulates bacteria or dirt.

Instead of buying makeup brush cleaners that are so expensive, why not use something that is cheap and cleans your brushes properly while disinfecting them. This lovely item is Dettol soap.img_0951

This is an anti-bacterial bar soap that can be found in most supermarkets or drug stores. It can be used to wash your face and body. but i mainly use it for my face and makeup brushes/sponges. It cleans your brushes properly and removes all traces off makeup from them.

The following steps are how i wash my brushes/sponges;

Get your used makeup brushes/sponges
Soak them in clean warm water

My secret to longer eyelashes

Every woman wants to have long beautiful lashes, and I am one of those women who cannot stand having a false lash glued to my eyelids 😄.

I have always had medium length lashes but always wanted it to be longer, and that way I wouldn’t have to bother about getting false lashes. So I explored my options and found solutions. Well, lately I’ve been getting lots of compliments on how long my lashes are and have decided to share with you all my tips and secret.

When buying a mascara, I always tend to look out for two things: the type of wand it has and if it’ll be a growth, volumising or lengthening mascara. The ones I use are;

  1. Gosh the secret of longer lashes mascara in black: this is a Growth Mascara. It claims to give you longer lashes after two weeks. Now I actually can say that it works, but at a slow rate. One thing for sure is that it separates my lashes because of the design of the wand and it adds volume to it while making it look longer. growthmascara_open2
  2. Makeup revolution viper mascara in black: I am in love with this mascara. The minute I saw the curve of the brush and then actually tried it at home, it was just so good. It builds up nicely and adds volume to your lashes. This is my all time favourite mascara.2313
  3. Collection lengthening mascara in ultra black: now this one is perfect for a simple nomakeup makeup look. It’s subtle and doesn’t add much volume to your lashes, but it sure does lengthen them. It separates the lashes and with each coat makes it look longer without the clumping effect.10179408
  4. L’Oréal false lash superstar red carpet black mascara: this is another favourite of mine. It comes in two steps, 1 is a primer and 2 is a jet black fiber rich formula which is black light infused pigment with blue undertones. The primer is white and thickens the lashes with each coat, while the second step comes with a curved wand which separates your lashes while adding length to it. It is great for a dramatic look or an alternative to a false lash.l-oreal-false-lash-superstar-red-carpet-black-mascara-l-oreal-paris-10023265_b_p

Now for the reason why we’re really here 🤗, my secret to full longer lashes. Now this particular product I’m about to mention was recommended to me by a friend (Behnaz). When we first met, her lashes were the first things I noticed, they are so long and 😍beautiful. I just had to ask how she gets her lashes so long and she told me, and I literally ordered it online that same day.

This wonderful product is called Xlash eyelash serum.

I cannot express my love for this product enough. From day one it started working. It claims to give you longer, thicker, darker lashes and I can honestly confirm that it definetly does what it says. It has a slim tip for easy application which glides on easily to both your upper and lower lash lines. It is recommended that you use this product for a minimum of 30 days to see results. Well I have been using it for 4 months and the results are amazing. My lashes have actually grown longer and look really healthy. I use it every night after i have taken my makeup off and washed my face. My first bottle is almost empty and I will definetly buy another one.

My hair care routine 🌟.

Have you ever been stuck at a certain hair length? Or just feel as if your hair isn’t growing? Well I have been there and it was not great, because who doesn’t want long hair right 💁🏽! But then after so much research I discovered I was doing it all wrong. I decided to transition from relaxed to natural, and I did so for 9 months before I finally decided to snip off the relaxed ends, and I was free! Then it hit me 💡, instead of worrying about hair growth, why not learn to understand my hair and at the same time take care of it and still achieve growth. Now it doesn’t matter if you have relaxed hair or its in its natural state, your hair will grow if you treat it right.

Hello everyone and welcome to my first blog post. I am so happy to be sharing my thoughts and ideas with you all, which in turn I hope will help you make your life easier. Now let’s get to work!

My hair care routine.

There are a few things I like to do before I wash my hair and you could also try these things and see how easy it makes managing your hair to be.

  1. Be in a good state of mind: last thing you want is to be sad or upset and handle your hair🙅🏽, because you might just end up frustrated that it’s either not cooperating with you or its to hard.
  2. Make out time: I have wash days. Mainly once every week because I do not like to manipulate my hair a lot. Making out time will be good for both you and your hair as you will be relaxed and comfortable and not have to rush the process.
  3. Get your tools together: you’ll need a wide toothed comb or your fingers, some clips, some conditioner (this can be substituted with hair mayonnaise, deep conditioner, olive oil or castor oil), a little bowl and you’re ready to go.

Steps before washing;

  • Make sure your nails or nail polish are not chipped (this is to prevent hair from being snagged).
  • Divide your hair into 4 sections

  • Clip each section away or use a hair band to hold it in place.
  • Start from one section by parting the hair and adding your conditioner (I usually mix my conditioner with either coconut oil or Jamaican black castor oil in a bowl). These things make the detangling process as smooth as possible.
  • IMG_0799
  • Here you can either use your fingers to detangle or a wide toothed comb. Detangle each section carefully starting from the bottom up. This helps to loosen knots at the tip of your hair, thereby reducing breakage.
  • When one side has been detangled, twist and clip back up.IMG_0812
  • Once your done with the detangling process it’s time to wash that bad boy.

I like to wash my hair with a shampoo and conditioner that is free from sulfur, because sulfur strips your hair of natural oils, moisture and nutrients which you need to retain. The few brands I can recommend are;

  • Cantu Shea butter shampoo and conditioner
  • Dove quench absolute shampoo and conditioner (this i’ll be using today)IMG_0791
  • Amla legend shampoo and conditioner
  • Creme of nature Argan oil shampoo and conditioner
  • Pantene repair and protect  shampoo and conditioner
  • Shea moisture shampoo and conditioner
  • Olive oil (ors) shampoo and conditioner.

I like to wash my hair while I’m in the shower. So you can either remove the clips holding the sections of hair or you can leave them in and wash your hair section by section. Make sure you rinse out all the conditioner or oils used in detangling with warm water before using shampoo. After shampooing your hair, rinse out with warm water again to remove any residue left. Then apply your conditioner and cover it with a shower cap for about 3 to 5 minutes and rinse out with cold water. This helps retain some moisture in your hair.

After washing I pat my hair with a towel or an old cotton t-shirt. Now if your hair is still divided and clipped up no worries, but if it isn’t, you’ll have to divide it into four sections again to finish off.

  1. Apply a leave in conditioner or oil to each damp section of hair and comb through with a comb or your fingers.
  2. Once applied to all sections, you can either leave it like that which will be a wash and go style or you can go ahead to style your hair.
  3. And viola, clean moisturized hair.
